The Global Youth Service Day (GYSD)
The Youth Community Service Festival Ibadan (YCSFI) was designed to promote young inclusiveness through a unique volunteering experience in the commemoration of the Global Youth Service Day 2016.
The Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebrates and mobilizes millions of young people who improve their communities through public service.
The All Nigerian United Nations Students and Youth Association (ANUNSA), University of Ibadan in partnership with Global Shapers Ibadan; We Care Initiative; and WeAreM.A.D Initiative mobilized youths for the activity.
Activities for the first day 15th April 2016 was centered towards Environmental education focusing on awareness and responsibility which was held at Ajibode Area of Ibadan. A House-to-House approach was deployed by the volunteers to engage the residents of the area and to raise awareness on the need for proper disposal of waste,effective waste management strategies,health consequences of a dirty/unhealthy environment and the essence of recycling. The sectional heads of the community were met to reiterate the need for effective waste disposal to avoid outbreaks.
The second day, 16th April was dedicated for Charity Visit and Donation to an orphanage.
Spending quality time with the kids represented the hallmark of the visit with focus on mentoring and coaching.
The recipient home was Children of Hope Orphanage, Bodija Area.
With the support of willing youths, contributions of able philanthropist, we believe that with service to humanity, WE CAN improve the welfare of our world.
