SPRINGBOARD Rekindles Agriculture Passion by Pioneering Sustainable Agriculture and Organic Food Production In Rural Communities In Nigeria

Springboard, located in Akure (Ondo State, Nigeria), started in 2008, under the name ‘The Youth Farm Project’ and then was later registered as ‘Springboard’ in year 2013.  Springboard develops the potential of rural people – women, farmers, youth, families and the entire communities by setting up self-help groups (cooperatives), providing them with skills (through trainings), funds (through micro loans), and markets (through its vast networks). The company sees a prosperous and healthy Nigeria made possible by sustainable agriculture, organic food production, vibrant rural communities and personal enterprise.

Springboard, having proved that sustainable farms are not only possible but also successful, aims to change the old and poor perception of farming. Springboard believes farming is a dignifying source of livelihood and an exciting way of life. And Springboard is on a mission is to multiply the model of social enterprise that  has been created in Springboard, and to help it thrive throughout rural Nigeria.

How The Organization is Making Social Changes Within Akure

Springboard trains Youth and Rural Women on farming and village enterprises and gives them micro-credits to run their businesses.

For the farmers, Springboard trains them on Organic Farming, give all farming tools need as well as seedlings to plant. With this, Springboard is able to help reduce hunger, reduce unemployment, increase healthy food security and improve the standard of living of all beneficiaries.

Also another initiative of springboard is Farm To School Africa (www.farmtoschoolafrica.org) and Green Pads ( now known as SafePads) www.safepad.org

Since Inception, Springboard has trained over 2000 farmers and over 500 rural women entrepreneurs resulting in the establishment of over 1500 farms and 300 village enterprises in over 20 communities in Nigeria.
